Welcome to Room 20 - Ms. A. Hogan
Term 2 Activities
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Bhainimid an taitneamh as an rang rince i rith na seachtaine. Ag deireadh an rang bhíomar ag rince Ballaí Luimní. Bhí an-craic ann agus fuaireamar líreacáin.
Bhí ceolchoirm ar siúl le haghaidh rang a cúig agus rang a sé. Seo físéan beag ó rang a fiche ag canadh "Rolling in the Deep" le Adele.
Ar an lá deireanach bhí paráid mhór againn. Chaitheamar glas, bán agus oráiste. Bhí sé go hiontach ar fad.
Readathon 2017 is well under way in Scoil Mochua and Room 20! We were delighted to host author Debbie Thomas for a talk in our classroom. She was truly inspiring and so enthusiastic about her work as an author. We have also been enjoying buddy reading over the last number of weeks with our first class friends in Room 7 and were sad to see it come to an end this week. Our post midterm readathon total is 259 books read and we are undertaking a big drive in class this week to push this number as high as we can!
Gymnastics at Excel
Over a four week period we did gymnastics at Excel Gymnastics near Tesco with our coach. We did tumbles, flips, cartwheels, bars, trampoline and much more in Excel. It was a great experience for everyone and was very enjoyable. Our coach taught us very well, and even amazed us. Lots of us are looking forward to the next time we do gymnastics again!
Bhaineamar an-sult as ról-imirt "Stoirm". Is scéal greanmhar é. Chuaigh na páistí ar scoil ar an mbus ach tháinig siad abhaile i mbád.
Our Science Experiment
We conducted an experiment to investigate the best insulator using paper cups with the following insulators: paper, tinfoil, cloth, cotton wool and one with nothing on it. The one that retained heat for the longest was cotton wool. Testing was difficult, but we completed it and learned lots.
We learned about slapstick comedy in Music. We did drama shorts with the slapstick (crazy) music in the background. It was great fun!
Term 1 Activities
Just before Christmas a lot of fun was had in Room 20. We visited the foyer to see the beautiful display by the Parents Association. We baked cookies, which were lots of fun to make, but more fun to eat! We decorated the classroom, and even put up a Christmas tree! However, the highlight of Christmas was the Fun Day! There was a quiz and talent show in which three groups from each class in 5th and 6th participated. However, the highlight was the "Arcade" provided by the Parents Association. There were many games to play and even the wheel of fortune! Everyone had lots of fun. A big thank you to the Parents Association for putting on such an enjoyable and memorable event!
Intel Mini Scientist Exhibition
The biggest project for 5th Class happened on the 30th of November: Intel Mini Scientist 2016! Congratulations to Emer O'Reilly from our class who won first prize on the day along with Ella Carr and Christina McKeon for their project on The Oak Tree. Congratulations also to Erin Farell, Mia Gannon and Lucy Keogh who were runners-up on the day with their project on E-cigarettes. We wish the winning group the best of luck in the Regional Finals at Intel on December 9th!
We are currently completing an excellent cycling safety course with Mike which is part sponsored by Kildare County Council. We are thoroughly enjoying our weekly lesson.
For our assembly in November, our class performed a drama about class rules. Scoil Mochua was perfect (as usual)!
Oíche Shamhna Shona Daoibh!
We have been very busy in Room 20 making Halloween art for you to admire. Here are some spooky samples! We also visited the Halloween display in the foyer courtesy of the parents association. It had a very strange effect on us as you can see from our before and after pictures in the gallery below.
Rugby Blitz 2016 at Barnhall RFC
We had a brilliant time at Barnhall playing a tag rugby blitz with San Carlos of Lexlip. Look at everyone enjoying themselves! Thankfully the rain held off.
Our Art Project
Over a period of time we created the Solar System (including Pluto) using papier mache. It was a bit messy, but definitely a load of fun!
Our Science Experiment
We experimented to see if foods contained starch. We used a diluted iodine solution and dropped the solution on apples, ripe bananas, rice, potatoes and bread. See for yourself what happened!
Book Fair 2016
We had a very enjoyable time at the Book Fair with many purchases made!
