local history project |
June Fun! |
Our 5th classes (and some 6th class students) have been working very hard on the Local History Project. This project is heavily influenced by our former Principal Tony Doohan and the wonderful work he has done on documenting and teaching local history in Scoil Mochua.
The children all take an aspect of local history from Tony Doohan's book 'A History of Celbridge', study it and create a project on it. It is safe to say the results were amazing and we are so proud of all the entries that were received. The children created beautiful, creative, historically accurate projects and clearly learned a lot along the way. It was a tough decision to choose winners among such fantastic projects. After much deliberation, the winners were: Room 16: Cian Moore Room 17: Aoife Henry Room 18: Merida Marova 6th Class: Hayley White, Rebecca, Collins and Ria Murphy And the Overall Winners were: Henry Heffernan, Jonathon Abraham and Vivaan Jain. Congratulations to all our wonderful entries and a huge congratulations to our winners. Thank you to Tony Doohan for continuing to encourage and inspire a love of local history in Scoil Mochua. |
As we come to the end of another school year, we are reminded that there are aspects of school life that are equally, if not more, important than the academics.
The children have all had their school tours and sports days which have gone off without a hitch (and even with sunshine in most cases)! We also have had another very successful Paul Ryan Memorial Cup. For those that don't know, Paul Ryan was a former Principal of Scoil Mochua who loved to see children happy and outside playing sport- a tradition that very much lives on in Scoil Mochua. After preliminary rounds, semi finals and a final, we have a winner! Well done to Team Monaghan and their coaches Ms. Cullen and Ms. O'Rourke. And also well done to Clare and their coaches Ms. Arnold and Ms. O. Carragher who narrowly lost out in a very dramatic final. Well done to all the students and teachers involved in a fantastic tournament and a big thank you to Mr. Hannan for all his organisation- this wonderful tournament (a lasting Scoil Mochua memory for many children) wouldn't happen with him. |

Full attendance 20204-2025
A huge congratulations to the 10 children in Scoil Mochua who had 0 absences this year. We understand that there are often circumstances outside of people's control such as sickness but children are encouraged to be in school every day they are well enough to be here.
We are so proud of the fantastic achievement of full attendance that was achieved by these 10 students- Well done!

EU Grant Funding
In late 2021, a Department of Education and Youth project in Ireland's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), supported by the European Union through NextGenerationEU funding under its Recovery and Resilience Facility, provided funding to schools.
Under this programme, Scoil Mochua received grant funding to implement initiatives to address the digital divide and the needs of learners at risk of educational disadvantage.
This funding came at an opportune time. The Covid school closures highlighted the digital divide between, and within, schools.
The funding was used to address this gap, as well as to support our Digital Strategy in using digital technologies to promote active learner participation and engagement in a wide range of learning activities.
Scoil Mochua used the grant to fund the following:
· Replacement of old devices
· Refurbishment of old devices which were made available for children to borrow when required
· Bee-Bots: devices to promote analytical thinking and develop problem solving skills though play.
Funding opportunities such as these are essential in order for schools to engage with the Department of Education’s Digital Strategy for Schools. Scoil Mochua looks forward to enhanced funding in the future.

Principal's address
First and foremost, the website was designed as a window for our parents into our school and into classroom life.
We want to share classroom stories and school life with our partners in education. We feel that it is important to share these precious moments from the children’s school life - we know they generate smiles and warm the heart! School life for our children is so varied, and the children are exposed to so many exciting learning opportunities. We love to capture these on camera and post them on the website so that families can chat about them at home.
Of course, the website also attracts visits from grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. We are delighted and proud to welcome all of you. Above all else in our school, we value the children’s happiness and their enjoyment of learning. Their energy, inquisitiveness and level of engagement in learning never ceases to amaze us. I hope some of this jumps off the pages as you browse through the photographs of class activities and school events.
For those of you who are history buffs, or are simply interested in learning more about Celbridge, you will enjoy reading about the history of Celbridge on the website. Our lovely village is steeped in history – you will be amazed!
And, of course, the website is an excellent communication platform. Read some of our policies, the school calendar, information on our super Parents’ Association, useful educational links to enhance your child’s learning, details on school sporting events – it’s all there. You can also follow us on Twitter @scoilmochua for updates on the wide variety of learning that happens in Scoil Mochua.
Happy Browsing!
Kind Regards,
Catherine Carragher, Principal.
