Starting primary school will be the first big change in the life of your child. Up to this point they have felt safe and secure with you in your home but now they are facing the wider world of classroom and school. This may seem like a big step for someone so small, but most children manage it without any great fuss or stress - and in fact take to it like ducks to water.
Rest assured that we will do everything we can to ensure your child has a smooth transition to primary school. Please trust that we will provide a safe and secure learning environment for all of our new junior infants. The class teachers are so excited to meet the children and we cannot wait to get to know them all - we will have so much fun together! |
The Department of Children and Youth Affairs have published a very useful document for Parents of children starting school this year. Please click on the 'Ready for School' button to read it.

junior infant book list

Parents no longer have to pay for school books or copies in Ireland. This is welcome news for all, and long overdue.
We will be sourcing all school books, copies, folders,
journals, mini white boards etc. for the coming year. Information on this scheme is available here.

Here is a short video taken in
'Paul's Garden'. This is a beautiful outdoor classroom in Scoil Mochua that children will all get to use in the fine weather. Boys and girls, your teachers will bring you here to read or draw, or just to sit and have some quiet time - you will love it! Towards the end of the video you will also see the main entrance to the school and our beautiful sculpture. |
|
The sculpture is by a local artist called Jarlath Daly. It depicts a boy and a girl, just like the boys and girls that attend Scoil Mochua. They are each carrying a book in their hands, a symbol of the learning that takes place in our school. The children are playing together, capturing the value we place on happiness and relationships in Scoil Mochua. Together, they are encouraging a bird to fly high, providing support while at the same time enabling it to soar independently. This symbolises the journey the children embark on in Scoil Mochua, from wide-eyed Junior Infants, to mature 6th class children ready for the next chapter in their lives. We provide more than an academic education - we nurture and motivate the children, and instill in them a sense of curiosity. We do this in a happy, caring learning environment.

our school garden
In Scoil Mochua we are so lucky to have this beautiful garden. It is maintained by our gardener, Tom with the help of all the boys and girls in the school. We grow lots of fruit and vegetables here - can you name any of them from the photos? We also have some bird houses and insect hotels! The short video clip below show a Blue Tit that is nesting in one of the bird houses! We can't wait to bring you all here in September. |

our playground
We are so lucky to have a fantastic playground in our junior and senior infant yard. Each infant class is timetabled to have a lunchtime slot all to themselves in the playground each week. Children love to challenge themselves by balancing on the wooden beams, jumping from logs and swinging from monkey bars. What a wonderful way to work on core strength and fundamental movement skills whilst having lots of fun with friends!
A wooden ship is the latest addition to our playground which ignites much imaginative play from our little pirates, sailors and mermaids!
