Have a look at this lovely video, sent in by one of the Junior Infants. The swans and cygnets in Castletown are taking a break from the water and are having a waddle along the path!

Some of the work we have been doing at home!
Some SESE updates and ideas:
Our tadpoles:
I brought the tadpoles home when the school closed. I change some of their water every few days, and give them little pieces of lettuce to eat. You will be glad to hear that they are doing well and continuing to grow! (R.K.)

Spring walk:
If we were still at school, the classes would have been going on walks looking for signs of spring. If the weather is nice, why not go for a walk and see what you can notice. You might see some spring flowers like daffodils or cowslips:

Look up the trees and see if you can see a bird's nest:
Can you remember the chestnut tree at the front of the school? When we looked at it at the beginning of September, it had lots of leaves. Some were green, and others had changed to yellow or brown. We saw lots of chestnuts on the tree and on the ground. In October, the leaves had nearly all changed colour and they were starting to fall. In November, the tree was bare. It was still bare in December, January and February.
Chestnut trees are beginning to get new leaves now. They have grown buds which are getting bigger and bigger. The buds open and the new leaves begin to grow. I saw a chestnut tree which was just coming into leaf. Here is a picture of a bud which has just burst open:

What other signs of spring can you find?
School Closure
Dear parents/guardians,
As a result of the decision to close schools, we are providing a list of work which you can help the children to do at home. We hope everybody can stay healthy and safe.
Best wishes at this stressful time,
The Junior Infants teachers.

World book day 2020
OUR FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL
SEPT 2019
We have been learning about colours.
We looked at a painting by Piet Mondrian. He used the primary colours - red, yellow and blue.
Then we made printing blocks using card and string. We used black paint to print a grid and then coloured in some boxes in yellow, red and blue.
Next we learned how to make new colours by mixing the primary colours. Look at our colour wheels!
Autumn is here! We read a story called "Pumpkin Picking" and then made clay pumpkins.
We went on a nature walk and collected autumn leaves. We made leaf rubbings in autumn colours.
We used string to print grass and a sponge to print leaves. We painted autumn leaves on trees. We decorated the edges with our leaves and leaf rubbings. Everybody in the class did a bit!
Fun with paint
