Eco committee 2024-25
A new Eco Committee has been formed. It is made up of a representative from all classes from 3rd to 6th. We are extremely proud of these children who have volunteered to help make a difference in our school. A lot of work has been done in the past to achieve our first two flags. Click here to see pictures and read more about our Waste and Energy flags.
We are now working towards our third green flag as a school- the water flag.
We had our first meeting on October 3rd. We gave out recycling jobs and had a discussion around the use of basins in classrooms to save water.
We also made a rota for the weekly Eco Patrol.

Eco Committee Bake Sale
Support the Eco Committee's fundraiser bake sale!
Bring baked goods to school on Thursday the 30th of March and these will be sold during the day to raise money for Scoil Mochua's first ever water harvester.
If you can't bring along donations, bring a couple of euro, buy yourself a tasty treat and help make Scoil Mochua a more environmentally friendly place!
members of our eco committee hard at work!
Thanks to all members of the committee for your work organising the recycling every Friday. The committee noticed that a lot of recycling bins contained tissues and unwashed yoghurt cartons. They also noticed a lot of lights and whiteboards left on during break times. They made announcements over the intercom but this wasn't quite getting the message across to the younger classes. Then, Blake and Lauren from room 16 had a brainwave- a competition!
So for the six weeks before Easter, the committee will be running a competition for all classes from Junior Infants to first class. The recycling bins will be monitored and the Eco Patrol will be keeping track of all lights left on during break times. The class making the best effort will win a prize the week before Easter!

Make a pledge for climate action week 2022
The Eco Committee would like as many children as possible in the school to make a pledge during climate action week.
Watch the video below to learn about climate change and the things you can do to help.

Examples of pledges:
"I pledge to turn off the lights whenever I leave a room"
"I pledge to walk or cycle to school whenever I can"
"I pledge to use less plastic"
"I pledge to turn off the tap when I brush my teeth"
Your Eco Committee rep will have a leaf for you to make your pledge. All pledges will be collected to be displayed on the Eco Committee notice board. Please write your pledge in a dark colour and then lightly colour your leaf around the writing so your pledge can be seen. Write your name on the back. Return the leaves to your Eco Rep.

Bike week 2022
Let's get scooting and cycling for Bike Week 2022! The Eco Committee have been busy making posters to promote this initiative by Green Schools Ireland. Cycling or scooting to school is a great way to help the environment and stay fit. |

Our recycling promo video
The talented Aoibhínn Rourke from 6th class put together this very professional video for the Eco Committee. It is all about how to use the recycling bins properly and stars our very own Scoil Mochua students! Enjoy!
